Word Meta is there because you have widget Meta in position User9.
Meta widget is not part of our theme, but part of WordPress core. To learn more about its functions, please read http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/meta-widget/
There are also some 3rd party’s meta plugins that you may install and use instead of default plugin, in example http://wordpress.org/plugins/custom-meta-widget/
